Our mission is to bring Good News of God's love and share God's love in whatever practical means within our neighbourhood. Providing a strong Bible based teaching, programmes and ministries.

Our Church Community

Petra Gospel Centre (PGC) is a church of the brethren denomination assemblies - located in between Cheras and Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.

PGC started in 1993 as Taman Putra Gospel Centre, which later shifted to Taman Kencana in 1994. The church was renamed to Petra Gospel Centre, that was taken from Matthew 16:18, "…and on this rock (πέτρᾳ, Petra) I will build my church…"

Church History

PRE-PETRA DAYS

1990 - 1993

In early 1990, a few Christians from Ampang Gospel Centre and Melawati Gospel Centre started the Sunday School for children in Taman Putra, Selangor as part of their Church's extension work. A small group of twelve Christians met to worship God for the first time in a gathering on 1st April the same year. 

Hence, the new Church obtained its name - Putra Gospel Centre, that reflect the vicinity where these Christians have gathered to worship and witness. Moreover, the word Putra in the Malay language means 'prince', a very apt title given to our Lord Jesus. Consider Isaiah 9:6 

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

On 1st January 1993, Putra Gospel Centre was granted its automony status and the Church began to grow. Various ministries like Youth Meetings and gospel outreach were started to cater for the needs of the people

PETRA GOSPEL CENTRE

1994 TILL DATE

On 16th August 1994, the Church moved into its new premises at an adjacent residential area. The Church changed its name to Petra Gospel Centre. Petra means 'the rock'. The Bible refers to God in Deuteronomy 32:4 
 

He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.

Jesus referring to the Apostle Peter as the 'little rock' when He said, "And I tell you that you are Peter, (incidentally Peter also means rock) and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades (another word for hell) will not overcome it. - Matthew 6:18. 

The church conducted its first wedding ceremony on 31st August, 1999. Mr Kelvin and Mrs Karen Tang were honoured to be the first couple who were married at our Church since our Elders were appointed as Assistant Registrar of Marriages. 

On 31st August 2003, the Church launched a website that bears the name 'myPetra', reminding us that Jesus is 'my Rock and my Fortress'. The rationale of having a website is to disseminate information to the Church members in particular and to the immediate friends and guests whom the members shall be inviting to the Church services from time to time. 

Over the years, the Church has grown in numbers and maturity. We learnt that God always provides for the advancement of His Word. The message of sins forgiven, His love and power will always be available to those who want hear His good news.
